What about Porter?
At the announcement of the Transat A.T. group discussions with potential buyers, all eyes turned to Air Canada, Westjet and TUI, and then to Onex last Monday when it announced its intention to acquire WestJet.
Meanwhile, no one speaks of Porter Airlines and the company remains silent. Porter Airlines is based at Billy Bishop Airport, has a fleet of 29 fully paid Q400s and is debt free. Of all Canadian airlines, Porter is the one with the best financial health.
Porter Airlines still has a firm order for 12 A220-100s with options for an additional 18. It would be no surprise to us, if in the coming months stakeholders suggest allowing Porter Airlines to operate jet aircraft at Billy Bishop Airport to counteract the excessive concentration in Eastern Canada.
